Under Mars: An Online Archive of Soldiers' Photos

What is this site?
This site contains an archive of photos taken by soldiers and military contractors serving in active duty. This site aims only to visually document their experiences and is not a political site. The name "Under Mars" is an homage both to Mars, the Roman God of War, and to the otherworldly nature of the experience.

What is the goal of this site?
The goal of this site is exclusively to share photos of the experience of war, without politicizing, censoring, or editing.

How do I add my photos or contact the site?
If you'd like to add your photos to this archive, just email them to undermars@gmail.com along with any note you'd like included with them. Please only send photos that you took, or you know you have the permission of the photographer to send. If you know of any photos on this site that have been submitted without permission please contact me with the details.

Who took the photos on this site?
Credit and thanks for this site goes exclusively to the men and women who created the photos which are contained inside.

I think I know someone in one of the pictures!?
Please keep in mind that these photos are from many different people. I must emphasize that if you see someone you know in one picture the odds of them having any connection to other photos on the site are very slim.

Is this a pro-war or anti-war site?
It is neither. It is here to both show what's happening in a first-hand way, and to allow people to share stories that can not otherwise be shared.

Who runs this site?
This site is not run by a member of the US military, nor is it run by a US citizen or resident. This site is apolitical and who runs it, while not particularly secret, is also not particularly relevant.
